You Cannot Swim For New Horizons Until You Have Courage To Lose Sight Of The Shore
– William Faulkner
We have all been in situations when we know what should be done, what is the right thing to do, but we still don’t do it. Why? Because we are all risk averse by nature – we lack the courage to get away from the shore when swimming for new horizons.
Imagine if Christopher Columbus didn’t have the courage to lose sight of the Spanish shores in his search for a brave new world…
William Faulkner, the man behind this quote, was a true literary giant, although he stood only five feet, six inches tall. He was a very courageous man, never afraid to take great risks with his life and his career.
– Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist
This quote is from the famous book The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. It tells you why it is so important to follow your dreams and listen to your heart, just like the shepherd Santiago, the protagonist of Coelho’s book. Trust your instincts always, and never do anything that your heart or souls deem inappropriate. Follow your dreams, and the pathways of life will open before you.
Who is Paulo Coelho?
Coelho is easily one of the most famous authors in the world and a huge celebrity in his own right. He has sold more than 100 million books, which have been translated into many languages. He holds a record for the most sales by a translated book – the English version of the “The Alchemist”.
I read these 2 Richard Branson’s tweets this morning, and it got me thinking about how we often neglect some of the simple things in life. And also how it’s the simple things, the little things that add up over time to become a big deal, and a difference in whether we are successful or not.

Anyone can give up; it is the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone would expect you to fall apart, now that is true strength.

The Young Samurai series follows the adventures of Jack Fletcher, a young orphan, who is stranded in Japan and targeted by the dangerous enemies who killed his parents.

Live so that when your children think of fairness, caring, and integrity, they think of you. H. Jackson Brown, Jr. I would say this quote is pretty straight to the point and self-explanatory. Model good behaviour. Not only to children, but to everyone around us, especially those that we have authority and/or influence over. People […]
King Aurelio gazed out of his large bedroom window and towards the Kingdom of Aeris which he had acquired just a few days back after fighting the King of Saris, the most vicious and cunning King in the entirety of the realms. The night had ended in celebration, with drinks in plentiful and food in abundance in the banquet hall where he hosted the finest of men and women in the entirety of Aeris and beyond.
He had managed to keep within the one desire he wished for all his life, which he knew too well might step on the feet of the gods who had granted him the “Sceptre of Power” to defeat his enemies. He walked out of his room, donning his finest robe and with a wild smile across his lips as the guards tailed him from behind and ushered him into the large meeting room where the representatives of the gods awaited his Royal presence.
“It is wonderful that you are all here!” King Aurelio giggled wildly and clapped his hands together in the process.
